이 노래는 흑인 여인 작곡가 제씨 매 로빈슨 (Jessie Mae Robinson 이 지은 곡이다.
작곡이 실화에 근거하였다는 데 아무리 찾아 보아도, 그녀가 이 노래를 한국전쟁에서 부상당해 의식잃고 있었기에
애인을 잃었다는 남자의 사연을 알게되어 작곡하게 되었다는 이야기는 아무곳에서도 찾아 볼 수 없다.
그 어느 누가 소설을 써 낸 것 같다. 그러나 실화라고 했으니 거짓말을 해도 보통 거짓말을 한게 아니 잖은 가?
그러나 가사 내용으로 볼 때 남자가 부르는 것이 적합하다고 보아 이노래 처음에는 남자 가수, Hank Snow 가
불렀었으나 이노래에 배인 슬픈 감정을 제대로 표현하지 못하여 이 노래가 별 인기가 없을 때 패티 페이지가 아주 감정깊이
불러 유명하게 만들었단다.

유샤인As Koreans remember the break-out of the Korean war on June 25th, somehow this year, a story appeared on internet media that claims that the story of the lyrics was about a US veteran who was heavily injured during the Korean war and was in a coma for a long time.
Due to his coma, his love in the States did not know his whereabouts and was urged by her parent to marry another man than her love who is lost in the war. According to the unverified story, the soldier who was in a coma finally got out of the coma and learned that his love was about getting married. And so he went to her wedding, and the composer who heard about his story wrote this song.
Indeed, it is a very touching story, but I could not find any record of the composer who knew about this soldier. I created this video to let the world know of my failure to find the source of the alleged story that circulates among Koreans.
